How to Get Rid of Hiccups

When I get hiccups, I get them bad. I did some googling and found a solution that finally actually worked. I have used this method ever since and it works every time.

Take a huge breath and hold it. While still holding your breath try to take a few more breaths and continue to hold your breath as long as you can. You should notice that your hiccups have stopped and then you can relax and exhale. If not, just repeat the process.

I hope this works for you like it does for me.

Newsletter

I had an idea for a newsletter for the run club, I hope it turns out well. My goal is to have it finished by the end of the month. I'll post it when it's done.

To Resolve or Not to Resolve, that is the question

This year I have not made any formal resolutions, like I did last year. I have to say I'm pretty proud I was really good about honoring those resolutions for most of the year, then life got a whole lot more complicated and I needed to make some changes. This year I decided I want to simplify and balance my life. I'm the type of person who has a million ideas, starts a thousand, and finishes one (if I'm lucky). So, I'm trying to be very picky about how I spend my time and what ideas go from drawing board to reality. I'm liking the idea of picking one thing to focus on for the month.

This month I decided to focus on my run club and my role as an officer, the Flashmeister. I'm in charge of taking photos during our club activities. Lately, that's mostly been our weekly Saturday morning runs. I started spotlighting a member each week to learn more about each other, and that's gone really well. A club friend lent me his digital SLR for the week to play around with, which I was pretty stoked about (and TOTALLY sold on - the photos here are from playing around with it). So, I'm working on exploring my creativity through photography. I wish I were better and would really like to take a formal photography class one day (oh, maybe when I get my own digital SLR - my hubby and I are drooling over this one that will film HD movies). I'll report on how this goes through out the month.

Thinking ahead, my goal for February is sewing. there are several projects I need to choose from. I want to do another pillow for our Ikea chairs, a tote bag for commuting to work, and that infamous baby quilt that kicked my butt a few months ago. I'll post my decision on February 1 and report through out February on my progress.

Amy Butler Designs

I have fallen in love with this designer. I've never really known what "my style" is, but I would just love to adopt this style. The patterns and fabrics are gorgeous.

I saw this pattern in a local shop and it's on my project list now (since my current bag I use every day is dying a slow death.

So dang cute!

Digital SLR fun

These are photos my hubby and took with my friend's SLR at the Berkeley Aquatic Park. I can't believe my friend trusted me with his SLR, what a super nice guy! This was fun, and I really did notice a difference in the pictures. I think they would be more impressive if I actually knew what I was doing.

Happy New Year!

I decided to do some hiking and exploring today to celebrate the New Year. One of my favorite things about living where I do is that even though I live in the city, after a short 10 minute drive I can get lost in nature. It was a bit drizzly and muddy, but totally worth it. I decided to bring along our point and shoot camera and play around with the settings. A friend of mine is loaning me his DSLR for the week, which could prove very dangerous for my bank account. I may fall in love. We'll see. So, I guess you could consider these a "before" digital photos. I plan on taking the DSLR on a hike on Sunday. We'll see how they compare.
